Perfumes and Fragrances
Posted by admin | Filed under Articles
Mankind has been using perfume for quite a long time. Some people say it was first discovered in ancient Egypt and used by different civilizations such as ancient Chinese, Hindus, Israelites, Carthaginians, Arabs, Greeks, Romans and finally reintroduced hundreds of years later in France. Ever since, French perfume has become famous worldwide and today sets the standard for excellence.
The word perfume comes from Latin, meaning ‘through smoke’. Perfume came into being in the early days, through the burning of incense and aromatic herbs. Ever since, it has influenced mankind up to a point to become a product of desire.
For those purchasing perfumes, it is wise to become familiarized with basic fragrance groups which will help to find the perfect perfume one might be looking for.
The citrus fragrance category derives from different fruits such as lime, lemon, tangerine, mandarin and others, creating a sort of refreshing aroma. Mostly used during the summer. Appropriate for office wear, day or evening wear.
The floral fragrance category derives from large varieties of flowers such as vanilla, jasmine, roses and others. It is the most popular and used fragrance group. The scent of romance and starry nights.
The oriental fragrance category derives from mixtures of spices, resins, amber, balsams and other exotic essences, creating a warm and exotic feeling. Widely used during the winter season in the evening.
The chypre fragrance category derives from different wood-moss mixes, providing earthly aromas such as oak moss and other types of wood. Chypre fragrances smell slightly dry, not very sweet. Chypre perfumes are rich and tenacious, usually for those who tend to prefer slightly out of the norm fragrances.
The green fragrance category derives from scents of pine, leaves, herbs, juniper and others, providing a sharp outdoor scent. Good day wear and occasional evening wear in warmer weather.
The Fougere category of perfume scents derives from bergamot, oakmoss and geranium, and is mostly used my men. It has a classy style. Great fragrance choice for distinguished gentlemen.
These diversified fragrances will evoke different feelings and people just seem to enjoy that very much. Now that the basic fragrance groups have been explained, it’s up to one to make the best of his next perfume purchase and make use of the perfume fragrance that best suits his lifestyle.
However, while purchasing perfumes one should bewared that famous brand name perfumes are fairly expensive. If one is looking for genuine perfumes, he must be willing to spend fairly amount of money. However evoking memories of romantic moments thru fragrances may just be priceless and the expensive perfume price may just become fair.

Positive Emotional Effects of Body Fragrance
Posted by admin | Filed under Articles
Fragrance is an often overlooked accessory. Just as completing your look with the perfect handbag, jewelry and other accessory items can make you look and feel better, so can the application of your favorite body fragrance.
The emotional benefits of body fragrance are many. First and foremost, you get the boost to your confidence in knowing that you smell great. Your favorite fragrance can also be a calming, comforting influence as you go through your busy day. Our sense of smell is one of the strongest of all senses and can actually trigger memories more powerfully than any other sense. Most of us have a favorite perfume or cologne and when we spray it on, we are immediately reminded of pleasant times associated with that fragrance.
Yet another benefit of body fragrance is that of making a positive impression on others. Of course, there are those who find strong perfumes and colognes offensive, so we have to be careful not to overdo it. Most high-end fragrances require only a small application for maximum effectiveness. There is nothing worse than drenching oneself in any fragrance. There are a couple ways you can make sure you don’t go overboard. First, consider using a powder or lotion version of your favorite fragrance for daytime wear when you might be closely confined with others. You still get the benefit of the fragrance, but usually in a much lighter concentration than with a spray cologne or perfume.
Another way to avoid overuse of colognes and perfumes is to use the technique of spraying the mist into the air directly in front of you and walking through it rather than spraying it directly onto your body or clothing. If you’re using a good perfume or cologne, this is all it should take to give yourself a lasting and appropriate amount of scent. If you’re not using a good perfume or cologne, throw it away and invest in something of quality. Cheap perfume or cologne is simply bad in any concentration and sends its own message.
The fragrances you choose to wear can say a lot about your personality, helping you to make a statement about yourself and therefore adding another emotional benefit of establishing your uniqueness. While you should, of course, choose what you truly love, there are a few things to consider about appropriateness of scent. Everyone’s body chemistry is slightly different, so you should always try the fragrance out before you invest in it. Go to your favorite department store and spray on a little. Walk around for a couple hours and see how the fragrance changes and evolves on you. It may smell great when you first apply it, and it may even smell fantastic on your best friend, but as it reacts with your particular body chemistry and the undertones and base notes of the fragrance emerge, it may turn out to be completely wrong for you.
Another note on appropriateness of fragrances is when and where to wear them. You would probably, and definitely should, choose to wear a completely different type of fragrance to work than you would on a special date or a night out on the town. Most better fragrances offer a “suggested use,” such as daytime wear, evening wear or romantic wear. Use these as guidelines if you have trouble distinguishing which scents are appropriate for different situations. Your co-workers at the office probably won’t appreciate your “Red Hot Passion” nearly as much as your significant other might.
Feel great about yourself, relish a cherished memory and let everyone know just who you are by your choice of body fragrances. What could be better?

In a hot bath - Add a few drops of essential oil to a hot bath to make it more relaxing
As a room fragrance - Mix a few drops of essential oil with some purified water and burn the mixture in a fragrance burner. Your whole room will smell lovely and everyone who comes into the room will feel more refreshed and relaxed.
Make your own relaxing body oil - Mix a few drops of essential oil with Sweet Almond oil or baby oil and use that instead of lotion after a hot bath or shower. Your skin will stay soft and smooth and you will stay relaxed.
Make your own scented candles - Rub a few drops of a relaxing essential oil on the candle that you use for meditation to help you increase your focus and relax more during meditation.

Annick Goutal - The Woman Behind the Perfume

Before Annick Goutal designed wonderful perfume, she was a prize winning pianist and a successful model. Annick’s personal life was less than calm; she separated from her partner after a relationship that gave her a beautiful daughter, leaving just her and her daughter Camille. Soon after, Annick married a wonderful man from her childhood but then she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to overcome that. After that she decided to go into the skin cream business with a friend. They soon discovered that they had two things missing in their business, packaging and fragrance.
Annick met popular perfumer Henri Sorsana in 1977 and the next seven years of her life were spent remembering ingredients and working on the already brilliant sense of smell she had. Folavril, Passion and Eau d’Hadrien were her first three major fragrances. Once those three were launched she opened her first salon.
Annick Goutal has become very popular for her fragrances and admits that it is even worn by famous individuals. Annick also says that her fragrance, Eau d’Camille was inspired by her daughter because when she was younger she told her mother that she wanted fragrance like the ivy tree they had outside. Charlotte, her stepdaughter, also wanted a fragrance but she preferred something slightly less naïve, and this is where Eau de Charlotte comes from. And for her husband she created sables.
Along with all the great fragrances from Annick Goutal, there are also home fragrances. So your home can smell as good as you! There are a wide variety of fragrances available for your home and you are sure to find one that suits your home wonderfully and will leave it smelling great. To go with the wonderful smelling home fragrances there are also scented candles to give your home that peaceful look and great aroma.
But it was not all over for the Goutal’s when Annick passed away. This was a very sad and devastating time for all who knew her and knew what an amazing person she was. But, after Annick passed away, her daughter Camille decided to carry on the business and she did a very good job, just as good as her mother.

Choose The Perfect Mens Cologne
Posted by admin | Filed under Articles
There is a well known fact that sense of smell has much longer lasting memories as compared to name or face of a person. Relishing this fact, fragrance is used as a luxury personal.
Perfumes, the word is meant to describe woman’s fancy. Mens too indulge in perfumes and fragrances as much as woman, so a stronger word to describe the ruggedness of man evolved was Mens cologne. Colognes are also known as EDT (Eau De Toilette). They are much stronger than womens perfume. They just not conceal body odor but also keep you fresh and attractive whole time. They are the most concentrated and longest-lasting form of mens fragrance.
Nowadays cologne manufacturers are working relentlessly for producing distinguishable products. Various signature brands of colognes are created from nine scents which are citrus, spice, musk, herbal, wood, powder, fruit, floral and leather.
Depending upon these scents, mens cologne fragrance is composed of three layers namely head notes, heart notes and base notes. Top notes are responsible for the initial impression due to light spicy and minty scent that vanishes soon. It is followed by heart notes that comprise of heavier citrus and stronger spices scents that lasts an hour. Finally the base notes come in action. These are the mature fragrances responsible for the sweet lingering impression composed of long lasting leathers.
Citrus are the common head notes described as fresh, assertive and sharp. Slightly sour, citrus notes smell similar to the smell of fresh oranges, lemons, grapefruit, bergamot and pomello. Eg calvin klein perfume truth has citrus as domination fragrance. They form the main constituent of men’s cologne. Woodsy is the fragrances that are dominated by woody scents, typically of sandalwood, cedar and patchouli resulting in camphoraceous smell whereas leather is a family of fragrances which features the scents of honey, tobacco, wood and wood tars in its middle or base notes.
The composition of these elements certifies the hallmark of scents and duration of their stay. So people should have perceiveness regarding ingredients because colognes mingle up with the skin to release their fragrance and skin sensitive person can face problems if caution is not taken. One should never go for the impression offered by bottles.
Mens cologne is manufactured by process of alcohol and fragrance oil dilution. Jasmine, lavender and orchid extracts are the base of fragrance oil in colognes. Because of the too much efforts involved, colognes prices are quite high. It’s not an easy going task to avail all these expensive products. That’s why discount mens cologne has become a popular alternative. They are the most affordable fragrance that lends you with right aura and image to attract every heart and eye.
Various other popular colognes for men can be found under the brand names like giorgio armani cologne, Creed cologne, hugo boss cologne for man, fendi cologne whose exotic essence can provide you everlasting freshness and coolness. Why Do So Many Women’s Perfumes Come Out Of France?
Posted by admin | Filed under Articles
It sure seems like nearly every quality women’s perfume comes from France, which has been the center of the fragrance industry for over 300 years. The actual beginnings of using fragrance have different origin though.
History shows us that it is actually Egypt that birthed the use of fragrances with them being used in rituals, as incense, and in lotions and ointments as far back as 3500 years ago, a few hundred years after that the women of Egypt were using certain scents for their cosmetic and aphrodisiac qualities.
Getting back to our story, France began expanding into the perfume industry in the 1600’s by first offering perfumed gloves. It seems that ladies didn’t like the way that leather gloves made their hands smell so they were perfumed. It was so popular that perfume makers and glove makers joined together to market them.
Within a century or so the use of fragrances had advanced to the point that they were used by themselves on a large scale and the invention of the eau de cologne using citrus and spices caused a virtual revolution in the fledgling industry. Along with the topical applications these early scents were even combined with wine and used as a mouthwash.
Believe it or not the fragrance industry, especially in France has never seen a decline. The statistics of usage are astounding with nearly all women using some kind of perfume and half of the men! Every year sees at least a hundred new perfume scents brought to market in France and the cost of bringing these products out isn’t cheap, it can be as much as twenty million dollars. Add to that the fact that a fragrance it not even considered to be successful unless it does over $200 million in sales.
The exact geo center of the world’s fragrance market can probably be narrowed down to the city of Grassed near Cannes. This is where the industry developed from the early partnership with the glove makers, a fad that didn’t last, to now being the center for perfume making. Most perfume makers today use more chemicals and synthetics to make their fragrances but the flowers that grow here in Grassed are where they draw their inspiration.
The area employs over two thousand people in the fragrance industry and is responsible for over a half billion dollars in sales annually, making up half of the entire French perfume market. No wonder they are known all over the world for fine perfume.
